A few years ago, Jan Dhan Yojana was started by the government in all the states of the country and as far as we know, you too must be aware of Jan Dhan Yojana. At present, crores of people are getting the benefit of Jan Dhan Yojana. A new information related to Jan Dhan Yojana has been given by the Finance Ministry, according to which till now more than 51 crore people living in different states of the country have received the benefit of this scheme.

What is PM Jan Dhan Yojana?

To encourage people in India to save, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was started by the Central Government of India on 28 August 2014. So far, more than 50 crore accounts have been opened across the country through this scheme. A person of any age can open his account under the scheme. After opening the account, this bank account can also be operated like a normal bank account.

Under Jan Dhan Yojana, an account can be opened with a minimum of Rs 0. There is no need for you to maintain minimum balance. After opening an account in Jan Dhan Yojana, you easily get government subsidy and government scheme money in your Jan Dhan account. Apart from this, financially weak people also get insurance by opening an account under this scheme and the account holder is also given a rupee card. The same account holders also become eligible for overdraft of ₹ 10000.

Big update in PM Jan Dhan Yojana

Giving information on Tuesday, the government said that about 20% of the accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana are not activated at present. In a written reply given in the Rajya Sabha by the country's Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad, it has been informed that out of the total 10.34 crore inactive Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts till December 6, about 4 crore 93 lakh accounts belong to women alone.

20 percent accounts are inactive

Further, he also informed that, according to the data given to him by the bank, about 20% of the approximately 51.11 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts were inactive till December 6.

Rs 12,779 crore in inactive account

It was further informed by the Minister that the percentage of inactive Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts is the same as the percentage of total deactivated accounts in the banking sector. He said that at present approximately Rs 12,779 crore is deposited in the deactivated Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account, which is approximately 6.12 percent of the total balance in the account of the above scheme. He also said that, on this remaining money, interest equal to the interest applicable on the activated account is being provided to the account holder and after reactivation of the account, it can be claimed by the depositors at any time and their Money can be withdrawn. Further, the Minister informed that the government is continuously making efforts to ensure that people do not deactivate their accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. The government is constantly monitoring these types of accounts and checking their progress.

Finance Ministry gave information

The Finance Ministry of India has written on the social media platform Twitter that ever since the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was implemented, the percentage of women among the beneficiaries of this scheme is 55.5. The Finance Ministry has also informed that till November 22, a total of Rs 2.10 lakh crore was deposited in these accounts. However, there is only a balance of Rs 0 in the total 4.30 crore accounts opened under the scheme. The main reason for this is that the government has made a provision in whatever accounts will be opened under Jan Dhan Yojana that there is no requirement of maintaining minimum balance in such accounts.
