Kerala launched India's first government-owned studio platform C Space. Its objective is to provide relevant information to the people and take advantage of the vast opportunities of the sector. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the stage at Kerala Theater on March 7 at 9.30 am. Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian will preside over it.
Malayalam cinema will get a boost
Shaji N Karun, film director and chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), said C Space is basically a response to the growing imbalance and diverse challenges in the OTT sector in terms of content selection and dissemination. C Space is managed by KSFDC, a state-owned company tasked with promoting Malayalam cinema and industry on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala.
Formation of Curator Panel
To select the content, KSFDC has constituted a curator panel, which includes Benjamin, OV Usha, Santosh Sivan, Shyama Prasad, Sunny Joseph and Jio Baby. Each content presented on the platform will be evaluated for its artistic, cultural and infotainment merit by three curators on the panel. Only content approved by the curator will be displayed on the platform. Karun said the curators have so far selected 42 films for the first phase of C Space. Films which have won awards at national or state awards or have been screened at major film festivals will also be screened.
material at very low cost
On C Space, audiences will get to watch a feature film for Rs 75 and content at much lower prices. This means the amount for watching a movie has been fixed at Rs 75, half of this amount goes to the producer. The launch of the platform will address a major concern of exhibitors and distributors of the film industry. According to officials, a panel of curators evaluated the presentations and selected some deserving ones among them. It also represents the film complex of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. Short films, documentaries, web series and other curated content will be launched on the OTT platform.
