The idea of complete independence developed in the 1929 Lahore session of the Indian National Congress and the Purna Swaraj Declaration, or “Declaration of India’s Independence”, was promulgated. Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted India’s tricolor flag on the banks of the Ravi in Lahore, which later became part of Pakistan. The Declaration of Independence was officially proclaimed on 26 January 1930. The Congress celebrated January 26 as Independence Day between 1930 and 1946. 26 January is now celebrated as the Republic Day of India every year.
“77th Independence Day”
This year India is going to proudly celebrate its 77th Independence Day on 15th August 2023 to mark its independence from the British rule. Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav started by the central government has posted that this year India has got independence for 77 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The Indian tricolor flag will be hoisted by them. This year, India’s 77th Independence Day is being celebrated under the theme ‘Nation First, Always First’.
The theme of this year’s Independence Day is “Rashtra Pratham, Sarvada Pratham” (Nation First, Always First). This theme was chosen to emphasize the importance of putting the nation first in all our actions. It is a call to all Indians to work together to build a better future for the country.
The theme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech. He said that this theme is a reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and the need to uphold the values of democracy, unity and secularism.
He also called upon the people to work together to make India a strong and prosperous nation. The theme “Nation First, Always First” is apt for this year’s Independence Day. Traffic will be restricted in some parts of Delhi on 13 and 15 August. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, cautioning citizens to make their plans accordingly. Heavy security arrangements have been made by the police around the Red Fort as well.
